How do you explain Jeter?

How do you explain it? A 37 year old is having the best year he’s EVER had. He’s batting a .417 and going strong and unlike many superstars, he’s never indulged in HGH. How did he do it? Well, Cal Ripken Jr. thinks he knows the answer. The legendary Oriole points to the the vast criticism Jeter received for last year’s performance and believes “deep inside, it had to bother him…when you’re in a slump, you’re in a slump. But when you get to a certain age, a slump is looked at differently, like it’s an indicator your career is over. He’s answered that. The way he’s playing, he’s not slowing down at all. He’s got a lot of baseball left in him.” Jeter has once again led the team from 0-3 to the top of the AL East, already building momentum for the summer. In short, GO YANKEES!

US places tariffs on solar panels from China

The US commerce department has just announced their decision to raise a 2.9-4.73% tariff on all Chinese solar panels sold to America (in response to the illegal subsidies Chinese manufactures provided for exporters.) This is a big break for US export companies. China has taken about half of the solar industry so this tariff should on the side help increase American jobs (and the US definitely needs some of that right now.) Now how will this impact future relationships with the Chinese? Many analysts say this could already add strain to a fragile relationship. Whatever the case, this should definitely help Americans pioneer this new industry, as this tariff will incite more and more US companies to try this new market.

Peyton Manning Moves to Denver

Last year Tebowmania shocked the world. This incredible athlete, denounced by every sports analyst, took the 1-4 Denver Broncos to the playoffs. You’ve got to love this guy. This is the closest this generation has seen to a true miracle. Yet though Tim warmed all of our hearts, he did not warm John Elway’s, the past illustrious quarterback and manager of the broncos. Yet did Elway make the right decision, releasing one of the most promising quarterbacks? The gorilla has an answer.

REASONS FOR PEYTON:

Let’s be clear, Peyton Manning is as close to God as you can get on this earth. The man took the Indianapolis Colts to a Superbowl title and 11 playoff runs. He has tons of experience, and if you look at his records, they blow you away. The legacy throws a 65% completion rate (if you don’t follow football, that means his receivers catch his throws 65% of the time), accumulated more than 54,000 yards, and scored just under 400 touchdowns. He’s probably one of, if not the, greatest quarterback of all time. And if you look at the Denver Broncos, a team inches away from the Superbowl title last year, it’s clear he would be a great help.

REASONS FOR TEBOW:

There is a reason it’s called TEBOWMANIA: He’s crazy. In his second season, he electrified the NFL and instilled a love of football in every child. One would wonder based solely on his stellar performance why the Broncos wouldn’t keep him. Most experts would say  unlike Peyton, Tebow’s completion rate is less than half (47%), but Tebow can run. In fact, he ran for 660 yards last season. Whether all those tackles will hurt him over time I’m not sure, but that can really keep defenses on there heals: Last year the Pittsburgh Steelers defense  (rated the best against the pass in the NFL) allowed Tim Tebow, the guy with the WORST arm in football, to throw over 400 yards against them. Coincidence?

Overall

Both of theses guys are exceptional quarterbacks and they have a lot of playing left to do. But the Broncos haven’t won a Superbowl in over a decade, and with his experience, Peyton Manning is the guy to get. I think, under the wing of John Elway, Manning could bring the Broncos a trophy. But needless to say, both of these guys will probably do well in the future. The Gorilla has spoken.

Pelosi vs. Colbert. A fight for the ages

There is another battle on the hill. Republicans and Democrats are putting on their boxing gloves, getting ready for November. But the fight may be breaking out right now as Pelosi and Colbert are bring it on. But why? Jon Stewart’s Super Pac for Stephen Colbert has not been responded with the greatest praise, and in fact, there may soon be legislation against it. Nancy Pelosi is apparently trying to pass the DISCLOSE Act, which would make Super pacs much more open. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look too good for Stephen. Pelosi has apparently stated he’s “out of control” and that he is using his super PAC t”o attack my friend Newt Gingrich.” I have a couple questions though.

First, why is Stephen’s Superpac such a big deal? He is not even on the ballot for the primaries and I can’t imagine he’s pulling in a lot of money. I personally think that some Democrats are possibly trying to rip up Republican Super Pacs before the elections and are using poor Stephen as an excuse.

Also, let’s not be hypocrites. It’s not like this is the first time Super Pacs have been used. Both sides have had Super Pacs for the longest time.

But perhaps the best question though is why can’t politicians let this go? Colbert is obviously doing this for a joke, so in the words of Paul McCartney, let it be. I also think regardless of whatever political side you may be on, everyone wants to see what’s up Colbert’s sleeve

And you thought he was out.

If there were a time in politics to play the Rocky theme song, this would be it. If there were a Tim Tebow of football, this would be it. If their were an Oakland A’s of politics, this would be it. Santorum is projecting wins in three states. boom.

Colorado:

Santorum: 40%, Romney: 35%, Gingrich: 13%, Paul: 12%

Minnesota:

Santorum: 45%, Romney: 27%, Romney: 17%, Gingrich: 11%

Missouri:

Santorum: 55%, Romney: 25%, Paul: 12%, Uncommited: 4%

Okay, so I don’t think this is too surprising because Santorum’s views match those of the conservative west. With that being said, it’s still pretty scary for the other candidates. But I still think this is good for Romney’s campaign. If Romney had sown up the states, it would only give the Democrats more and more time to attack Mitt. This way, if Romney does eventually sow up the nomination, he’ll have more of a chance. Besides, Romney’s more liberal views probably would never have won him these states anyway.

by the way. THE GIANTS WON!!!!!!

Florida Primary

So this primary has probably decided the election. with a double-digit Romney win, it seems that Mitt may have feasibly for the first time, really assumed total control of the race (and that’s for every election he’s run in). Here are the results:
Mitt Romney: 46.4 %
Newt Gingrich: 31.9%
Rick Santorum: 13.4%
Ron Paul: 7%

Paul:
Okay, I don’t think anyone dislikes Paul. His ideas are great, and he clearly dominates all foreign policy questions. But his supports going down. His age is starting to show (he would be the oldest president ever elected), and unless he goes libertarian or independent, he has no chance at seizing the nomination, despite being the incredibly kind and thoughtful person he is.

Rick Santorum:
Santorum is the new Rick Perry. He’s the guy that everyone thought would go far, just to fall flat on his face. He’s really good at getting evangelists, but Romney and Gingrich are stealing his voters, and unlike Iowa, you can’t go to every county in the United States to get votes. But he’s not in last place…yet.

Gingrich:
Newt Gingrich tells the story of apple. He’s a candidate that no one gave a shot to, became really popular in the beginning, nearly failed, went back up, and will soon be taken over by a sleeker model (by the way, I’m writing this on a mac). Gingrich’s numbers are all over the place, so it’s impossible to tell if he can challenge Romney or bite the dust as he does here. But Newt is convinced that if he can get it to a two man race, he can beat Mitt. We’ll see, but keep working on your products.

Mitt Romney (Da Boss)
When this campaign started, everyone thought it was going to be incredibly boring. They thought all the candidates would stop running and Romney would assume the lead. But even after his stock plummeted, Mitt Romney came back, and will probably seize the nomination.

As a side note, GO GIANTS!

Gingrich…A Surprise

Well, there was a beat down. Plain and simple. The world thought the hype was over. All the fights, all the duels. People thought Romney had sewn up the nomination. But you can never tell Newt Gingrich no. You can’t tell him breaking the 11th commandment is wrong (not to disparage other candidates), you can’t even tell him he’s breaking the original 10 commandments. But there’s a long fight left in this one. Here are the results from the primary:

Gingrich: 40.4%, Romney: 27.8%, Santorum: 17%, Paul: 13%, Colbert/Cain: 1%, Other: .8%.

Okay, so Gingrich had a 17 point lead, and as we speak, is ripping up Florida. But I think there is one other statistic that many analysts have neglected: Colbert! According to this new poll, Colbert has the highest highest favor of ANY candidate running with 39%. And shockingly, if he were to do third party run today, he would get 13% of the vote. And though he may be running as a joke, his numbers are not.

South Carolina

A lot has been happening in South Carolina, but with the polls open, this might be the biggest story: Romney may lose to Newt Gingrich. Why? Well, many analysts believe that because of Perry’s endorsement of Gingrich as well as Newt’s strong performances in the last two debates, Gingrich may do far better than anticipated. But this might not be such a bad thing for Romney. According to CNN’s Paul Sracic, if Romney wins the nomination, he could easily win Florida and waltz off with the nomination. BUT,  Romney then will have to campaign until November, taking shots from Obama along the way. So if you want Romney, go Gingrich! And if you want Colbert, go Cain!  We still might have a race.

From Globalpost.com

RANDOM FACT: Santorum won the Iowa Caucus off of a recount by 34 votes. That little flub could have sent his campaign spooling in the wrong directions.

They’re dropping like flies!

Rick Perry is dropping out of the presidential race. Despite spending the most money in Iowa and millions elsewhere, Rick Perry is gone. That’s kind of weird, because he was covered by time as a serious candidate, in fact even stealing the cover once. He was never close in Iowa and New Hampshire, and with his South Carolina going bad, it seemed logical he was dropping out. But I personally this is why he dropped out: In polls in his own state of Texas, he is behind Gingrich and Romney. Ouch.

Colbert and…Cain!

So Stephen Colbert has done the unbelievable. He first has decided to run for president, a big power move. But not only that, but he is trying to get on the South Carolina ballot. Unfortunately, he applied too late, as they do not allow any write-ins, so he has come up with an ingenious idea. A vote for Cain is a vote for Colbert! Cain, though he pulled out, is still technically on the ballot, so Colbert is running tons of ads, telling people to vote for him/Cain. Herman has taken this very nicely, telling all who think it’s rude and what not to “lighten up.” If you remember, this is not the first time he has done this. In 2008, he ran as a Republican, as it was apparently “cheaper” In a cnn interview, he said he would either choose Mike Huckabee, Vladimir Putin, or himself as his VP. “Colbert-Colbert – that’s a strong ticket,” he argued.
